7th Grade Language Arts

We have a great year ahead of us!  We will be reading The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton, The Giver by Lois Lowery, several short stories from our anthology, and will have a poetry intensive unit ending in a poetry slam.  Also, students will be writing at least four major essays this year with weekly reflections inbetween.

This week we are beginning with basic expectations for the class, discussing summer reading, and revisiting the Jane Schaeffer multi-paragraph format.

8th Grade Language Arts

It is hard to believe that 8th grade year is here!  This year is going to be a writing intensive one as my hope is that by the end of the year, students will know what tools they can use to make their writing stronger and have confidence in their own writing skills.  Students will be writing at least four major essays this year as well as completing weekly reflection papers.  There will also be book reports due once a quarter.  We will also be reading Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, The Odyssey by Homer, as well as several short stories and poems from the anthology.

This week we are focusing on class expectations, summer reading, a review of the Jane Schaeffer multiparagraph essay format, and writing basics.  Weekly Thursday Vocabulary test wiil be next Thursday.

6th Grade Bible

I am sure it is hard to believe that your students are in Middle School already!  This year in Bible, we will be doing a review of the Old Testament, then reading through Matthew and a few of the other New Testament books.  Our focus will be on Jesus Christ, His ministry, and what that means for us today.  I hope that this class will help students understand what a personal relationship with God means.

This week we will review class expectations, previous Bible knowledge and begin looking at the relationship between the Old and New Testaments.  We will have our first weekly Bible Memory Verse Test (MVT) next Thursday.
