September 8th-10th
Welcome back! I hope that you had an adventurous, enjoyable, and relaxing summer! For those of you new to middle school we are so glad to have you in our family; and for our returners we are excited to see your smiling faces come Wednesday! This webpage is the perfect place to get an idea of what is going on in my classes for the week. Check you child's schedule to see what class (or classes) they have me for and then find the class heading below. If you have any questions or if I can be of any help this year please email me at: sparish@hcsonline.org. I look forward to the year that God is planning for us and am excited to start classes!
6th Grade Language Arts
This week we will be discussing our summer reading, A Wrinkle in Time. This assignment will be due on Firday, but can be turned in on Wednesday as well.
We will also begin to introduce students to a style of writing that we use in our middle school program, the Jane Schaffer Method. We will begin working on topic sentences and commentary this week.
7th Grade World History
Our world history class will start with the fall of the Roman Empire. Students will be revisiting what life was like in Rome, what contributed to its decline, and the creation of a new empire as Rome declined.
6th Grade Math
We will be starting out with Chapter 1: Number Sense, Addition, and Subtraction, this week. This chapter is a review chapter and because of this we will be doing two lessons each day. If some concepts need more review I will make sure that they are revisited and that our pace is slowed down.
7th Grade Bible
In this year we will be learning how to grow deeper in relationship with Christ and what it means to follow after Him. Students will be spending time each day reading their Bibles and journaling about the things that they are learning. Students will be encouraged to share what they are learning during their Bible reading times and also other encouraging ways that God is working in their lives.
We will also start the year with a unit on worship. Students will look at the different types of worship that the Bible talks about and also look at how worship songs are taken from the scriptures to be offered as praise to God.
Lastly, we will have weekly memory verse tests (MVT) starting next week. New memory verses will be assigned on Thursdays and tests will be the following Thursday, allowing for one week to memorize the material.
Sept 16th MVT: Psalm 119:9-10
