September 8 - 17 WELCOME TO MIDDLE SCHOOL 2010 - 2011

We have planned our first sixth grade field trip for October 26th to California Science for the Mummies of the World Exhibit and the IMAX. We will need several parent volunteers to drive and chaperone. It is not too early to begin praying for the field trip and your availability to help out.

Ancient History - Welcome to Ancient World History.   Please have your textbook covered by Monday, Sept. 13.   We will delve right into our first civilization   - Mesopotamia ? on the week of September 13 th after a short introduction to world history. We will begin our first geography unit, Middle East.   The students will be labeling and coloring a Middle East map. They will be quizzed on the map at the end of the first unit of study. The students should anticipate a quiz each Friday on the lessons covered that week. Unit tests usually cover 3- 4 weeks' lessons.

Earth Science - We will begin an introductory unit to define Earth Science and the Scientific Method. It is important that the students learn how to observe and record their observations in an orderly manner. The students will have several opportunities throughout the year to complete a lab so we will begin to practice the skill right away. Please have textbooks covered by Monday, September 13 th .

Bible - Seventh grade Bible is all about a relationship with a personal Savior. Each day's class will begin with a chance to read their Bible for about 15 minutes; It is imperative that each student has his/her Bible with him each day of class.   We will begin our studies with a unit on worship and prayer. Of course there will be a Bible verse to memorize most weeks. I will give the students the next week's verse on Thursdays and they will be test the next Tuesday.

Our first memorization will be a 8 verse section which we will take 3 weeks to memorize. It is Psalm 119 ; 9 ? 16. The students will be tested on verses 9 and 10 on Thursday, Sept 16.

There is no Bible class on Friday because of chapel.
