What is It?

Development at HCS refers to a whole menu of programs that are designed to support our mission by expanding our revenue base and growing relationships within our HCS community.  Our fundraising efforts provide resources for strengthening programs already in place as well as providing new programs and expanded activities for our students.  Activities include golf tournaments, silent auctions, e-scrip, box-tops and voluntary donations.  Development also involves planned giving so that we can know what our resources will be as we develop budgets and programs.  Development includes making new friendships and developing relationships that will enhance and support our school programs.

Development involves a lot of volunteers who make a tremendous difference for our students, and we can always use more help.  You can make a meaningful contribution to the future of HCS and your child’s experience with just a few hours scheduled at your convenience.  Right now we are specifically looking for people who can:

*  Design flyers

*  Co-ordinate and turn in our Box Tops for Education information

*  Help maintain data base information

*  Help plan and promote our Golf Classic scheduled for March

If you could help in any of these areas contact the school office.

How has the money from fundraising been used?

  1. Approximately $50,000 was used to keep tuition as low as possible.  This translates to a savings of over $100 a year per student.

  2. Computers -  Thank you to our PTF who purchased a mobile computer lab with 25 lap top Apple computers with wireless access to the internet.  This is like having a second lab on campus.  Other fund raising money purchased 25 iMac Computers to completely upgrade our computer lab.

  3. Network upgrades - as our school expands so does the need for our technology use.  We have upgraded much of our computer network and will continue to work on the upgrades over the coming year.

  4. We continue to upgrade our facility...cement repair, refurbish and paint lunch tables, paint lockers for our middle school students and new lighting in the science lab, computer lab and hallways.

  5. A number of classrooms were furnished with new student desks and/or student chairs.  We began a process last year to furnish all of our classrooms with new student furniture over a three year period.

  6. Expand our music program curriculum for grades K-5.

  7. We are in the process of building a Contingency Fund.  It is our goal to develop a fund that we will use when we have large projects such as repairing or replacing air conditioning units, carpeting classrooms or repairing the roof.
